Painting From The Inside Out

“The doing is all that matters. The source of creation
holds immense potential in all children;
it is fully alive and present from the beginning.”
- Michele Cassou,
Kids Play: Igniting Children’s Creativity

‘Painting From The Inside Out’ is a series of after-school enrichment classes offered at select Portland Public Elementary Schools. The experience of this particular way of painting is relaxing and calming for children (for adults, too!). There are no step-by-step instructions and no techniques are taught.

The focus is on the adventure and joy of creating and inventing rather than the outcome. Children’s work is not compared or judged and so the pressure for performing is removed. Children discover they don’t need to be taught everything and creativity is a space without limits.

The art created is entirely the children’s own: fresh, authentic and unique. Children learn self-reliance and self confidence develops thus enhancing the way they respond to the world.
